Red Sky Performance and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra present the next Young People’s Concert, the World Première of She Holds Up the Stars!

Written, created, and directed by Sandra Laronde and based on her award-winning novel, this original multidisciplinary production brings together Indigenous storytelling, theatre, large-scale puppetry, and live orchestral music performed by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, with music and sound design by Eliot Britton.

Why Your Kids Will Love This Performance

Indigenous storytelling, theatre and live music: At its heart, this is a story of a young Indigenous girl searching for her mother’s truth. Through an unexpected bond with a spirited horse, she finds courage and resilience in a world shaped by beauty, cruelty, and the deep pull of land and family.

Striking life-sized puppets: Created by UK designer Nick Barnes and animated by three puppeteers, brings the horse vividly to the stage, alongside additional puppets that inhabit the story’s world.

Free Pre-Concert Activities: Arrive an hour early to explore the Instrument Discovery Zone, Music Playground, and additional family fun!

Special Q&A panel: Meet artists from Red Sky Performance and ask questions in a special She Holds Up the Stars panel discussion 1 pm to 1:20 pm and 3:30 pm to 3:50 pm in the North Lobby.
