Camp Pinniped at Pacific Marine Mammal Center is a unique experience allows children to witness a marine mammal hospital in action! Campers learn the art of marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation as they observe our animal care team in action. Campers make meals for our patients and then engage in a series of mock activities that teach them how to handle rescue equipment, admit a patient into the hospital, prepare fish smoothies and feed them to ‘plush’ patients, and discover the importance of animal autopsies in research by ‘dissecting’ plush patients. Each day has a different theme which includes ocean conservation and stewardship in order to provide a well-rounded study of the marine environment. Each theme is creatively reinforced through games, arts and crafts. Campers go home empowered with actions they can take in daily life to protect the ocean. Each year we add new content so campers who return keep on learning!
