Young children and
their grown-ups are invited to gather in the Carlos galleries to hear children’s literature related to the collections and exhibitions, look closely at a single work of art together, and then head to the studio for an engaging hands-on activity! Space is limited, and registration is required.

Dive into Kwesi and Nana Ruby Learn to Swim by Kobina Commeh,
illustrated by Bárbara Quintino—a story about overcoming fear and embracing cultural heritage. Visit Mami Wata, the powerful West African water spirit, in the African Art gallery, then create water-themed art using different watercolor techniques in the studio. Participants will explore their own experiences and emotions related to water and courage.
🌱 Planting Kindness & Repairing the World
Saturday, March 21, 10 am | ages 3–6
Read One Small Spark by Ruth Spiro, illustrated by Victoria Tentler-Krylov—an introduction
to the Jewish concept of tikkun olam, or repairing the world. Visit the Compassion: What Moves You? galleries to discover artworks that inspire kindness and community care, then decorate flowerpots and plant seeds in the studio to gift to someone special.

Settle into the Native North American gallery and listen to Remember by Joy Harjo (Mvskoke), as she invites the group to reflect on family, nature, heritage, and the world around us. Then head to the studio to create artwork honoring your favorite parts of the natural world using stamps and collage materials.
